Instruction on making a metal wire handle frame for using as a purse handle.?
I like to make purse and those pre made handle frames for beading is what i am trying to make. I do not what i need to put on the ends of the frame to complete look. I also need to know what gauge of wire to use. Thank you for your input.
Your wire gauge is going to depend a lot on the size and style of your handbag. The bigger your purse, the heavier the wire you should use. For a smallish purse (something a brush, wallet, and various small items would fit in) you could probably get away with wire as thin as 16g. For a larger handbag (something you could fit the normal stuff and a paper back novel in) you’ll want at least 14g, maybe 12g or 10g. You’ll want to use three or four lengths to create an open frame to bead around. If you solder, or know someone who does, it might not be a bad idea to solder your support wires to a couple of rings to help keep the form. For finishing the ends, I would recommend twisting the wires together and wrapping one end around the others for stability–use the stray ends to create some sort of hook to attach to the bag, and cover the rest up with beading if it looks too bad.
Do not make your handle overly long (i.e. no shoulderbags), and do not put heavy things in the purse in order to avoid accidental breakage.
