How To Make Lanyards – Making Beaded Lanyard Designs

A lanyard is a pretty good gift idea because the person receiving it can use it to secure the badge, the keys or even the mobile phone. Learning how to make lanyards can be fun for many people and the materials required are pretty cheap and readily available. The process is very simple and step by step you can do it yourself very quickly.

The material is very important when you make a lanyard. It has to be a flexible, elastic and thin plastic lace. You can find it in any craft stores as boondoggle, craftlace, gimp or lanyard.

When making a lanyard you´ll have to decide which kind of stitch you will use. The braiding technique is very important but you should know that involves a lot of time and concentration.

The most commonly used one is known as the crown knot (round knot). The next tip will teach you how to make a lanyard using the crown knot.

The first step will be to fold together two strands of craftlace. In order to hold them together you´ll have to tie a knot at toward the top. Now you´ll have to work with four strings. Point each of them in each cardinal direction (N, S, E, W).

Very close to the knot and using only one finger you should hold the W string while pulling it over the N string. Then cross the N string over the E string. As you can see the N string covers now the W string and the E string at the same time. Take the E string and cross it over the S string and this latter over the W string.

Pull each of the four ends very tight and there you have it: your first knot. Now continue the process and the result will be a great rounded lanyard. The length of the lanyard is entirely up to you.
