how do i fit laminate flooring around inside of door?
i have fitted laminate floorin which looks great the problem i have is how do i fit the beading on the iside of the door frame because i think if i do this the door won’t shut,is there a filler i can use to fill any gaps instead of using beading.also when fitting the beading around the rest of the room should i use no more nails or proper nails.
thanks
Finish nails should be used to nail the shoe molding to the base board. Depending on how much you are installing, you should consider renting a finish nailer and a small compressor, or a cordless model. They are easy to use and do a much cleaner job with no risk of marring the molding or possibly the new flooring with the blow of a hammer face.
As for the door frame, you should never use trim. If the gap is small, don’t worry about it. If it is really unsightly, you could use a caulk I suppose, but the end result may not be much better.
Keep in mind that an interior door frame consists of several individual pieces. The flat surface that the door hinges are attached to is called the jamb. The smaller strip in the center of the jamb is called the stop. This is what the closed door rests against. The molding on either side of the door frame is called the casing. So as you can see replacing the wood so that it is flush with the flooring would be difficult. One alternative would be to remove the casing on both sides, cut the nails that attach the jamb to the rough framing which will allow the door jamb to rest flush to the flooring, then reattach the jamb and reinstall the casing. I have done this with good results, however it does require some skill and other tools. You might want to try to find a friend that is knowledgeable or hire a professional to do it however.
