UV Gel: A Step By Step Application Guide

Why I Am For UV Gel

Do you like the beautiful look of natural nails? Are acrylic nails a bit of a faux pas for you?Do you wish you had the time to maintain natural nails and keep them beautiful longer.  If you wish that your natural looking nails were durable and easier to maintain without sacrificing their elegant beauty, then you must get yourself a set of uv gel nails. UV gel nails are a type of artificial or fake nails, but they don’t seem to have the same stigma that bad acrylics get (yellowing, very fake looking, injurious to the nail bed, noxious fumes, etc. etc.).A gel manicure may not last as long as an acrylic manicure because gels are not as hard as acrylics, but they do have a beautiful natural look that acrylics can’t touch.  Gel nails can also be reinforced with fiberglass or kept short if you are worried about how you treat your poor nails now. Gel nails come in a variety of brands, styles and types and there are a few important distinctions to note.  The most important item of note is that there are two variety of UV gel nails, the first are almost irremovable, and they are your standard uv nail gel, the second type are still difficult to remove, but they do not require you to grow them completely out.If gel nails is kind of a new thing for you, or commitments make you curl up in the fetal position (He is a Great Guy!) it is suggested you try “Soak Off” Gels, check with your nail tech, shes got what you need.  Otherwise you can jump right in with a permanent set and start loving your nails more than you thought you could. If you are a nail tech looking for a bit of extra information, or just a nail buff who wants to know what she is really getting in to, then you should really enjoy this uv gel application guide below:

Its Time For: How To Work With UV Gel

  1. Step 1 Buff or file the top of your nails to remove any natural shine and oils you have. Apply a coat of primer and allow it to dry all the way.
  2. Step 2 Apply a thin layer of gel to the nail.  Use the same motion you would if you were applying polish, brushing from your cuticle to the free edge of your nail.
  3. Step 3 Put your fingers under the lamp for a duration of about 2-3 minutes or until the uv gel has dryed.
  4. Step 4 Add a second coat of nail gel to your nails. You want to apply a bead of gel to your nail and slowly spread or float it around over your whole nail being careful to keep it from touching the skin. Again, Position your fingers beneath the lamp to let them dry.
  5. Step 5 Repeat step 4 making sure to fill in any ridges that may have formed and smooth out the shape of the nail.  Take your time with this step.Position your nails in the uv light to let them cure for the last time.
  6. Step 6 File your nails with a nail drill or buffer to attain the shape you want.

Now it is time to enjoy your new (or your client’s new) uv gel nails.  Make sure to stay curious, be careful, and always have fun when working with your uv gel lamps!
