Penn Foster Online Jewelry Design Program?
Has anyone gone through the Penn Foster Jewelry Design and Repair program? I have heard mixed reviews about Penn Foster, but many seem partly due to student error (based on what I’ve read). I’ve also not been able to find any reviews of their Jewelry Design program, in particular.
I’m not too concerned with having a jewelry design degree that will get me a job as jeweler. I am mainly interested in learning the basics of jewelry design (beyond beading) as a hobby and a potential future source of income. Does the Penn Foster program provide good information and instruction that would give a beginner the tools and knowledge to work with metal, gemstones, etc?
Thank you!
The Penn Foster is very basic – good if you need basic, not so good if you’re beyond how to crimp the settings on a pre-cast ring or how to draw out your ideas.
Have you seen the programs that GIA has online? http://www.gia.edu/educational-programs/how-to-learn/distance-education/index.html They are, by most accounts, the premiere education arm in the jewelry business.
Not only would you learn the material needed for a hobby, their credentials are very well respected in the business too.
