Beading Needle Threader

Can I apply/remove feather hair extensions with normal needle nose pliers?
I am getting feather hair extensions to put in my hair, but I really don’t want to spend $30 on the special pliers used to put them in and take them out, so could I just use needle nose pliers? Also, can you just slide the micro bead onto the strand of hair, or do I need a threader? Thank you!
