What is meant by beading in woodwork?

In our house woodwork was done for the cupboards and lofts.Our carpenter pasted the edges with something and painted it to avoid cracking or peeling or lifting of mica sheet.Is it sufficient (In a shop, I saw long stretches of pastic and wood strips).Please clearly explain the different types of beading , its uses and its advantages.

Although beading does prevent splitting its main purpose is usually decorative to help give something a finished look. Depending on how complicated you want it to be you can do your own with a basic household router and some basic router bits. If you have to buy everything new your looking at between $100-200 dollars for lower end models. There are a wide variety of beadings you could use depending on your taste and what your doing. If you want to do the work yourself and you plan on using a router, take a trip to the hardware store. The router bits usually have a picture of what the finished edge would look like on their case.
